Seed Deepdive: Snow Capped Peaks

Seed Deepdive: Snow Capped Peaks

Over the next few days we're going to be showcasing the first five seeds we've chosen for the upcoming Obsidian Worlds release. These aren't random finds. We've carefully curated them with the help of talented seed hunters, tested them properly, and imagined what kind of communities they'd create.

This is the first one. We call it Snow Capped Peaks, and it's actually where we've chosen started our new survival world.

When we spawned into the world, my jaw dropped. I'd never seen mountains like this in Minecraft. They were so cleanly cut and they transported me right back into my High School geography classroom - in a good way! As we wondered around, we spotted a corrie (a small mountain hollow formed by glacial erosion), a glacial U-shaped valley (formed by the movement of a gigantic glacier over thousands of years), and an impressive V-shaped valley (etched into the landscape by a river). It really is the perfect seed for geography nerds!

You start your adventure standing on high ground and looking out over this massive verdant valley, framed by three enormous peaks. Immediately, you're struck that his could be a natural formation. Even a talented builder with a geography textbook handy would struggle to improve upon these formations. In fact, I've attempted to build many mountains and natural landscapes; none came close to this.

We didn't need to discuss whether it was staying on the shortlist. It was so obvious.

The valley floor is so versatile, you could build anything down there and it automatically becomes that little bit more epic simply due to the gigantic backdrop of the mountains. What's more, the shader we used made the clouds and mountain combination look just like the Misty Mountains from Lord of the Rings. The potential for fantasy builds is real.

As we've explored the seed to gather essentials resources not found at spawn, we've discovered a variety of landscapes further afield, many of which are equally as impressive. But no spoilers - that's for you to explore!

Nearby you can find a tower and a destroyed portal, and there's a large Deep Dark biome lurking below the surface. We didn't spot any villages at spawn - maybe they're concerned about what's lurking in the darkness below?

We can't wait to see what you end up building here!

Let us know what you think. Next, we'll be going somewhere a little more tropical.
